Halloween Adventures in B-Movie Horror 2025: Part 1

Halloween is this week and I am excited! I have a good mask on the way and plan to head to a local brewery for some spooky inspired beers.

In anticipation for the big day, like always, I’ve watched a few horror flicks. As is tradition, their budgets are low, and the camp is high. First up for this year, a trio of flicks all related in one way or another to the medical field.

One takes place at a hospital, the second centers on a killer hunting a specific nurse, and the third includes a criminology student who suspects her doctor boyfriend may have committed murder. They also are all from the 1980s.

REVIEW: Mishandled tone makes ‘Heart Eyes’ a disappointment

The mask worn by the villain in this slasher is certainly great. The rest of the movie? Not quite so much.

The antagonist in this film shares the name of the movie itself. Heart Eyes is a serial killer who has been on a rampage the last few years, killing several couples on Valentine’s Day. The film picks up again on Valentine’s Day in the present, centering on a Seattle-based marketing professional named Ally (Olivia Holt).

Because of trouble at work and her single status, she’s not too excited for the holiday. Things only get more complicated when she meets Jay (Mason Gooding), a new colleague she has chemistry with, but sees as a work rival. Unfortunately, the two are mistaken as a couple by Heart Eyes and now have to go on the run from the killer.

REVIEW: Slasher fans will be thankful for Thanksgiving’

The Macy’s parade, turkey, football, and this year, a slasher movie.

In this new seasonal horror flick, inspired by a fake trailer made for the 2007 “Grindhouse” films, a killer is on the loose in a small Massachusetts town. The slayings get underway a year after a deadly riot broke out at the local super market during a massive Black Friday deal.

In the present, whoever is doing the killings appears to be going after those who were responsible for the riot. That puts a target on the back of Jessica (Nell Verlaque), a high schooler and daughter of the store owner, who was there that night with her friends.

REVIEW: ‘Halloween Ends,’ thankfully

A trilogy with a promising start, a messy middle and a head-scratching finale that makes you think they didn’t plan things through.

It applied to the new “Star Wars” films and it’s how this recent “Halloween” series went, too.

“Halloween Ends” picks up four years after the events of the first two films in the trilogy. After killing Laurie Strode’s (Jamie Lee Curtis) daughter and many others on Halloween in 2018, Michael Myers has completely disappeared. Laurie is now living with her granddaughter Allyson (Andi Matichak) and is writing a book about her experiences.

Fate causes their paths to cross with Corey (Rohan Campbell), a young man who after was involved in a fatal incident which was blamed on him. While Laurie is first sympathetic to Corey, she soon learns that he might be a factor in Myers coming back.

Halloween Adventures in B-Movie Horror 2022 Part 1

It’s the other most wonderful time of the year. Oktoberfest beers, pumpkin spice lattes, leaves changing to beautiful colors, and of course, Halloween.

With the return of the spooky season, I’m going back to the world of B-movie horror and checking out what it has to offer. For this first installment, I’m going with a mix, with a UFO flick and a pair of slashers.

REVIEW: New horror ‘X’ delivers mix of old and new thrills

What happens when you cross “It Follows” with “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre?” It’s probably something like this movie, “X.”

Set during the late 70s in rural Texas, “X” follows a group of six characters who’re working on an adult film. To shoot the production, the filmmakers have rented themselves a small cabin on the property of a secluded farmer.

The group gets to work and things start off fine. However, when the property owners learn what kind of work is going on, they take great offense to the actions and the situation escalates to a deadly level.

It’s spooky season, Halloween is close, and I’ve been watching more B-Movies! It’s the genre that truly keeps on giving, with plenty of schlock to go around.

REVIEW: ‘Halloween Kills’ crushes momentum from 2018 installment

Lightning struck in 2018, with that year’s “Halloween” feature, as it was a return to form for the long-running franchise.

Unfortunately, it appears to have been just a lightning in a bottle scenario.

The movie picks up just minutes after the end of the 2018 picture. Despite the efforts of Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her family, the killer Michael Myers survived the trap set for him and is back on the loose.

As Myers emerges from the fire started in the first picture, reports of his actions begin spreading throughout the town. Many of those who learn of Michael’s actions had run ins with the killer when he first attacked in 1978. Intending to bring an end to Myers, they decide to take the law into their own hands, causing even more chaos in the city of Haddonfield.

Halloween Adventures in B-Movie Horror 2020 Part 1

The month of October is perfect for scary movies with Halloween as the grand finale. In most cases, it’s a good time revisiting those classics like “Psycho” and “The Shining.”

However, it can also be fun checking out some pure schlock. The best way to do that is with B-movies. Low on budget and often high on cheese, these flicks are often fun to view with friends over a couple beers.
