REVIEW: ‘Disclosure Day’ is a major disappointment from Spielberg

Steven Spielberg is no doubt a fantastic filmmaker with a spectacular career. But when it comes to his recent filmography, things have been rough. Sadly, that trend continues.

The latest movie from the notable director stars Emily Blunt as Margaret Fairchild, a Kansas City-based meteorologist at a local station who, after a strange encounter, acquires the ability to speak several languages, as well as some telepathic power. Meanwhile, cybersecurity expert Daniel (Josh O’Connor) is on the run from a nefarious company.

The group, led by Noah Scanlon (Colin Firth) is chasing Danile and his girlfriend Jane (Eve Hewson), because he’s carrying evidence of the government covering up alien life. As the film goes on, the paths of Daniel and Margaret are on a collision course, as the former knows something needs to be revealed, and the latter realizes she has to bring something to light.

REVIEW: Pixar’s alien adventure ‘Elio’ mostly succeeds, despite drawbacks

The protagonist of this film would have loved listening to Art Bell’s “Coast to Coast AM” in the 1990s.

That’s because the titular Elio (Yonas Kibreab) is a UFO fanatic who doesn’t just want to make first contact. The 11-year-old has aspirations of being abducted and meeting aliens from out of this world. His motivation is deeper than just a fascination with visitors, though.

Elio, tragically, lost his parents at a young age and his relationship with his new guardian, his aunt Olga (Zoe Saldana), has been strained. Eventually, Elio’s wish is granted and he’s taken aboard an alien ship, with the extraterrestrials believing he’s an ambassador for Earth. He goes along with the ruse, but he may be in over his head.

REVIEW: Sans dialogue, ‘No One Will Save You’ succeeds with suspense

Those who’ve played Nintendo games where protagonists are speechless other than grunts should find themselves in familiar territory with this mostly dialogue-free film.

Kaitlyn Dever stars in the picture, now on Hulu, as Brynn, a young woman living in a rural house near a small community. Brynn lives a simple, quiet life, appearing to be trying to recover from a trauma in her past.

After a fairly typical day, she goes to sleep, but is woken up by noise in and around her home. The intruder, though, is no burglar, but rather an extra-terrestrial, and there’s not just one that Brynn has to escape from.

Halloween Adventures in B-Movie Horror 2022 Part 1

It’s the other most wonderful time of the year. Oktoberfest beers, pumpkin spice lattes, leaves changing to beautiful colors, and of course, Halloween.

With the return of the spooky season, I’m going back to the world of B-movie horror and checking out what it has to offer. For this first installment, I’m going with a mix, with a UFO flick and a pair of slashers.
