After a long, strange year and a mostly-virtual award season, 2020 in film is about to officially come to a close.
While 2020 obviously wasn’t a great year, there were still some great films made by several talented artists.
In the end, I got 17 right and six wrong in my predictions.

A movie like “The King’s Speech” doesn’t seem like it needs someone to stand up for it.
Just a reminder, this is a film that won four Oscars, including Best Picture, seven British Academy of Film and Television Arts awards, two Critics Choice Awards, a Director’s Guild of America award, a Golden Globe, two Screen Actors Guild awards and a Producers Guild of America award. It has a very full trophy case and everyone involved walked home happy
“Parasite” capped off a great award season run with a golden night Sunday, as it earned the top prize from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
Along with Best Picture, “Parasite” earned wins in categories such as Original Screenplay and Directing. Also having a good night was “1917,” which earned wins in Visual Effects, Sound Mixing and Cinematography.

One of the nice things about the Academy Awards is it shines a spotlight on movies some people haven’t seen.
More often than not, documentaries end up in that category, as they usually lack theatrical releases. As usual, five docs were nominated for the gold statue and I managed to see all of them. Here’s my takeaway.
Oscar Sunday is here and after a lot of movie watching and research, I’m ready to make my picks for nearly all of the categories.
I’ve already written prediction pieces for some of the other categories, such as acting and directing. However, there are plenty others I still need to pick.
A preview of award season’s grand finale was released this morning with the announcement of nominees for the 92nd Academy Awards.
Earning the most nominations is “Joker,” with 11 total, including Best Picture. “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” meanwhile, also earned several nominations, including Best Picture.

Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz will portray another Oscar winner in the movie “A Special Relationship.”
Variety reports Weisz, who has an Oscar and was nominated for another in last year’s “The Favourite,” is set to star in “A Special Relationship.” In the movie, Weisz will portray actress Elizabeth Taylor, with the film focusing on her transition into a political activist.

On Hollywood’s biggest night of the year, “Green Book” was announced as the top movie of 2018.
Not only did it earn Best Picture, it also received Best Original Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor. While it was an good night for “Green Book,” though, it wasn’t the only one receiving glory from the Academy.

Another award season has come and gone, with several movies now nominated for the biggest honor in Hollywood. Five of those movies are documentary features and this year, I managed to see all of the nominees.
With my major disappointment that “Won’t You Be My Neighbor” (sort of) behind me, here’s my take on the documentaries nominated for an Oscar.
For Hollywood, 2017 officially came to a close Sunday night with the 90th Annual Academy Awards.
During the evening ceremony, “The Shape of Water” was the big winner, taking Best Director and Best Picture, along with Best Score.
