Monday Movie Report: Winston Duke among actors cast in supernatural drama

Winston Duke, along with Zazie Beetz, Benedict Wong, David Rysdahl and Bill Skarsgard are attached to the new film project “Nine Days.”

According to Variety, “Nine Days” is a supernatural genre film and will be the feature debut by Director Edson Oda. Mandalay Pictures, Nowhere, Juniper Productions and MACRO are all serving as production companies on the movie, Variety reports.

Monday Movie Report: Barry Jenkins to work on Alvin Ailey biopic

Oscar-caliber director Barry Jenkins is working with Fox Searchlight on a new biopic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jenkins, who directed the Academy Award winning “Moonlight,” and followed up that with last year’s “If Beale Street Could Talk” (which made my top 10 list) is now working on a biopic about Alvin Ailey. A choreographer and dancer, Ailey was an influential artist who received Kennedy Center Honors and, posthumously, the Medal of Freedom from President Barack Obama.

Movie Report: Third ‘Kingsman’ in the works

Deadline is reporting Director Matthew Vaughn is working on the third “Kingsman” picture.

According to Deadline Hollywood, the third film will end the era of the two spies Eggsy, played by Taron Egerton and Harry, portrayed by Colin Firth. The series started with “Kingsman The Secret Service” in 2014 and continued with “The Golden Circle” in 2017.

Monday Movie Report: WWII drama, hijacking thriller among flicks picked up at Cannes

The Cannes Film Festival is continuing to make headlines in the industry, with several movies getting picked up for future release.

Most recently, Fox Searchlight picked up “A Hidden life,” which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival Sunday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by Terrence Malick, the picture is a World War II drama about an Austrian farmer who becomes a conscientious objector and refused to serve the Nazi regime and was later jailed.

Monday Movie Report: Russo Bros. to produce Hemsworth pic, other casting news

Anthony and Joe Russo, who directed “Avengers: Endgame” are teaming up with “Thor” star Chris Hemsworth again for a new film, according to The Wrap.

The Wrap reports that the Russos have agreed to produce a buddy cop film which will feature Hemsworth and Tiffany Haddish. The Wrap also notes that the project is being introduced at the Cannes Film Festival.

Monday Movie Report: Recapping ‘Star Wars’ celebration

The next film in the “Star Wars” saga is set for release on Dec. 20 and fans in Chicago along with the rest of the world were treated to a first look at the flick last week.

During the Star Wars Celebration event, taking place in the Windy City, a panel was held for “Star Wars: Episode XI,” featuring Director J.J. Abrams, LucasFilms President Kathleen Kennedy and several cast members. At the panels conclusion, the first trailer for the movie and the official title were released to the public.

Monday Movie Report: Casting news for Viola Davis, Dave Bautista, and more

Academy Award winner Viola Davis is has joined the cast of the “Suicide Squad” reboot and will return as the character Amanda Waller, according to Empire Magazine.

In the film series and the source material, Waller is often the head of government agencies which usually deals with superheroes and occasionally, villains. The latter is the Suicide Squad, a group of jailed criminals who’re sent out on dangerous missions. Davis portrayed the character in the original movie, too.
