Following comments made by Director Steven Spielberg and before the Academy Board of Governors meet, Netflix is standing up for itself.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix, via Twitter, made comments regarding the future of Academy eligibility rules. On Sunday, Netflix stated “we love cinema” and also said it loves creating “access for people who can’t always afford, or live in towns without theaters.”

One of this award season’s biggest shockers took place Sunday night during the Writers Guild of America award ceremony.
At the annual event, “Eighth Grade,” written (and directed) by Bo Burnham, won the prize for Best Original Screenplay from the WGA. The win was a major upset, beating out the likes of “Green Book” and “Roma.”

It was a great night in England for “Roma” Sunday, as the film from director Alfonso Cuaron picked up several awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
Those awards were some of the most prestigious, too. During the ceremony, “Roma” picked up both Best Film and Best Director, two major categories during award season.

The best performances of 2018 were celebrated in Hollywood Sunday evening with the Screen Actors Guild Awards Ceremony.
The annual event, now in its 25th year, gave its top award of the night to the ensemble of “Black Panther.” Another big winner on the night was Rami Malek, who won the SAG’s best male actor performance for his work in “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Weeks after awards were handed out by regional film critic groups, such as those in New York and Los Angeles, the Broadcast Film Critics Association joined the party.
On Sunday, the BFCA held the Critics’ Choice Awards and gave its top honor to “Roma.” Other pictures having a good night included “The Favourite,” winning Best Ensemble and “Black Panther” snagging awards in several tech categories.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association selected its top films of 2018 Sunday, with “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Green Book” coming away with the top two prizes.
Aside from those movies, another film having success at Sunday’s Golden Globe ceremony was “Roma,” taking Best Director. Winning for Best Drama Actor and Actress, meanwhile, were Rami Malek and Glenn Close.

Marvel has to be happy about this news.
According to Deadline Hollywood, the company Atom Tickets has ranked “Avengers: Endgame” as the most anticipated movie of 2019. Deadline reports that the social movie ticketing app conducted a survey which found the fourth “Avengers,” “Captain Marvel,” “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and “Toy Story 4” as the films audiences are most excited for.

The Critics’ Choice Awards, organized by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, announced their nominations Monday, with “The Favourite” leading the pack.
From Fox Searchlight and director Yorgos Lanthimos, “The Favourite” picked up a whopping 14 nominations including Best Picture. Following that film was “Black Panther” with 12 noms and “First Man” with 10.

Viggo Mortensen, whose latest work in the new movie “Green Book” is getting noticed this award season, will be honored at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Taking place from Jan. 30-Feb. 9, the fest will give its American Riviera award to Mortensen. The festival’s website states that the award is given for outstanding achievement in American Film.
