The latest reboot of “Fantastic Four” starts off in 2007 with the protagonists Reed Richards and Ben Grimm as young kids building a teleporter in their garage. Flash forward seven years and Reed (Teller) and Ben (Bell) are still working on the science project, with Reed being the brains and Ben being the assistant.

It isn’t long before Reed’s skills are noticed by Dr. Franklin Storm (Cathey). Reed is soon brought in to work on a major teleportation project, partnering with Storm’s children Sue (Mara) and Johnny (Jordan) as well as another young genius named Victor (Kebbell). Just when the group cracks the code on teleportation, though, an incident occurs which results in the whole group getting mutated abilities.

Ant-Man review

Director:
Peyton Reed
Cast:
Paul Rudd
Michael Douglas
Evangeline Lilly
Corey Stoll
Rated: PG-13

In Marvel’s Ant-Man, Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, a man who has just been released from prison for breaking into a high security business in which he used to work for. At the same time, Dr. Hank Pym (Douglas), a brilliant mind who invented a suit which can adjust size and strength, finds out his old company is going to use that technology to make a new, dangerous weapon.

As Lang finds himself falling back into his ways of theft in order to make enough money to be a better father to his daughter, Pym decides to give Lang a better opportunity. With the help of Pym’s daughter, Hope, the old scientist mentors Lang to use the suit to steal and dispose of the weapon to create a safer world.

“Ant-Man” had a bit of a rocky road in getting made since the project had to change directors along the way. The result is a movie that for the most part is good, but still had some noticeable areas that felt a bit disjointed.

Robert Downey Jr.

Mark Ruffalo
Chris Evans
Scarlett Johansson
Jeremy Renner
James Spader
Samuel L. Jackson
Rated: PG-13

In 2012 “The Dark Knight Rises” was released and while it was good, it didn’t live up to its predecessor, “The Dark Knight.” “Avengers: Age of Ultron” is in a similar position.

In the sequel to the 2012 superhero team-up flick, the audience finds the Avengers group traveling the world, defeating the evil organization Hydra and searching for a powerful weapon the villain of the first film used. Upon retrieving said artifact, though, Tony Stark, played by Robert Downey Jr., has a terrible vision caused by a new foe.

To prevent this vision from becoming a reality, Stark decides to change the future and create an artificial intelligence system, called Ultron, to protect the Earth. His invention backfires, though, as Ultron deems humanity a threat and decides to take action, leaving it up to the Avengers to stop the mechanical menace.

Top 10 Comic Book Movie Weapons

10. The Batarang – Batman Films
Throughout all of the “Batman” films, a few gadgets have stayed consistent, one is the grappling hook that helps the caped crusader get from A to B, and the other is the Batarang. From the animated films to the Nolan-verse, these bat shaped weapons have been the Dark Knight’s main tool for taking down bad guys. Surprisingly, the Batarang acts less like a boomerang and more like a shuriken throwing star.

Birdman review

Director:
Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu
Cast:
Michael Keaton
Emma Stone
Zach Galifianakis
Naomi Watts
Edward Norton
Rated: R

“Birdman” was once a famous box-office powerhouse at the movie theaters but lately has fallen out of the public’s eyes in this new film from director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.

The man who played the superhero Birdman, Riggan (Keaton) has fallen out of the eyes of many, too, as he hasn’t made a hit movie in years. To get himself back on top he decides to direct and star in a play in New York City. Problems arise, though, as he has to deal with his daughter Sam (Stone) who has just gotten out of rehab and an actor (Norton) who does things his way or the highway.

Birdman is a film that has a lot of depth in both its story and characters, and both subjects are thoroughly explored. What makes the film great is that not only are the various characters and their subplots interesting, they also make statements on a number of topics.

Guardians of the Galaxy review

Director:
James Gunn
Cast:
Chris Pratt
Zoe Saldana
Dave Bautista
Vin Diesel
Bradley Cooper
Lee Pace
Rated: PG-13

The best character of 2014 might just be a raccoon.

“Guardians of the Galaxy” is Marvel Studios’ latest cinematic venture. However, this time around the audience is introduced to a whole new universe with a different set of characters from what people have come to expect in a Marvel film.

The movie follows Peter Quill (Pratt), or as he likes to call himself, Starlord. Quill is an intergalactic thief who steals an orb from what looks like ancient ruins. This puts him on a wanted list of a few dangerous people, including Gamora (Saldana), who works for the villainous Ronan, and a raccoon named Rocket (Cooper) who is being helped by a walking tree creature titled Groot (Diesel).

Captain America: Winter Soldier review

Marvel has made its best super hero film to date, by not playing out like a super hero movie.

“Winter Soldier” is the sequel to the premier film, “Captain America: The First Avenger,” in 2011. The film takes place after the events of “The Avengers,” with the Captain, aka Steve Rogers, adjusting to his life in the 21st Century. He lives his life as an agent for SHIELD and works together with Natasha Romanoff, played by Scarlett Johansson.

Rogers follows orders from SHIELD Director Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and carries out those orders on missions. However, Rogers begins to have issues with how SHIELD is operating.

Thor: The Dark World review

Unfortunately for the mighty Thor, his sequel “The Dark World” turns out to be simply mediocre.

Like “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World” picks up some time after the events that took place with the battle in New York City in “The Avengers.” Thor, played by Chris Hemsworth, has brought his brother Loki, Tom Hiddleston, back to the world of Asgard for imprisonment after his crimes on Earth.

After doing so and restoring balance to the different realms, Thor decides to check on the woman he fell in love with in the first film, a scientist named Jane, played by Natalie Portman. When he does so, he discovers that Jane has come into contact with an uncontrollable power that is sought after by the film’s villain Malekith, played by Christopher Eccleston.

Kick-Ass 2 review

Looks like Kick-Ass 2 caught a severe case of “sequelitis.”

“Kick-Ass 2” follows the title character super hero who, under the mask, is high school student Dave Lizewski (Taylor-Johnson). The film picks up two years after the first movie where Dave decided to give up being Kick-Ass. However, as time goes on he hears the calling to return to crime fighting.

To improve his skills, he seeks the help of Mindy Macready (Moretz), who goes by her alter-ego Hit-Girl. Mindy helps train Dave for a while, however, circumstances force her to give up crime fighting. In order to continue patrolling the streets, Dave joins a group of amateur super heroes led by a man named Colonel Stars and Stripes (Carrey).

Trouble starts brewing though as the villain’s son from the first film, Chris (Mintz-Plasse), decides to seek revenge by building an evil army.

They actually pulled it off.

“The Avengers” is Marvel’s grand film featuring all of the super heroes shown in its previous adaptations, including Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Downey Jr.), Steve Rodgers aka Captain America (Evans), Dr. Bruce Banner who transforms into the Hulk (Ruffalo) and the God of Thunder from another world, Thor (Hemsworth).

The film opens very quickly with Thor’s evil brother Loki arriving on Earth and taking a powerful object called the Tesseract from the world protection agency called SHIELD. Loki’s plan with the Tesseract is to open a portal to outer space and bring a powerful army to invade and conquer Earth. Because of this threat, Nick Fury (Jackson), the director of SHIELD calls upon Iron Man, Captain America, Bruce Banner, Thor and two super SHIELD spy agents Hawkeye (Renner) and Black Widow (Johansson) to battle against Loki (Hiddleston).
