The Wolverine review

The latest film belonging to the “X-Men” franchise takes place a few years after the end of “Last Stand.” Logan, played by Hugh Jackman, known as Wolverine, is now living on his own in the wilderness. He is haunted by nightmares on a constant basis and can’t seem to escape his demons. One night, when he makes his way into a town, he meets a woman named Yukio, played by Rila Fukushima, who arrived to summon Logan to Japan to meet with her employer, Yashida.

Yashida, played by Hal Yamanouchi, is an old acquaintance of Logan, the two having met in World War II. Yashida wants to meet with Logan not only to thank him for saving his life during the war, but to also offer him an opportunity to get rid of his healing ability. As Logan ponders the proposition, he starts to learn there is more going on behind the scenes of Yashida and his family than what was first let on.

Iron Man 3 review

The 2013 summer movie season starts with a lot of booms, most of them coming from Tony Stark’s house getting blown to bits.

The third installment of the “Iron Man” franchise picks up not long after the mega super hero team up film “The Avengers.” After the events in New York, billionaire, Iron Man inventor Tony Stark (Downey Jr.) is trying to move on and live his life normally. However, because of the events that occurred with the alien attacks, Stark has been feeling nervous and has had anxiety attacks. To deal with this, Stark has been building multiple versions of his high tech suits.

While this is going on, a new threat begins to rise with an international terrorist who calls himself The Mandarin (Kingsley) starts taking responsibility for a number of mysterious bombings. At the same time, a man who has his own science corporation, Aldrich Killian (Pearce), has his own mysterious dealings going on and could possibly be connected to The Mandarin. Because of the threat that is brewing, Stark has to fight against The Mandarin, yet he finds himself short of much of his technology.

The Amazing Spider-man review

A retelling, reboot, remake, recycled, it’s every “re” you can think of.

The film follows Peter Parker’s origin story beginning when he was a young boy, when his parents suddenly had to go away and leave him with his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. The story then picks up to where Peter is a teenager in high school, having to deal with the average everyday problems. That is until he sneaks into a science lab to uncover answers about his parents who used to work there and is bitten by a genetically enhanced spider.

After this he begins getting new powers like heightened speed and strength as well as the ability to walk on walls. Meanwhile, one of the scientists at the facility, Dr. Connors (Ifans), who worked with Peter’s father, is working on a way to replace his lost arm by DNA splicing with that of a lizard. At the same time, Peter’s uncle is shot and killed by a robber; this sets Peter off on a quest of revenge, getting a costume and everything to go after the criminal. The two plots of Dr. Connors and Peter who has become Spiderman eventually meet as the two become the most powerful things in New York City.

The Avengers review

They actually pulled it off.

“The Avengers” is Marvel’s grand film featuring all of the super heroes shown in its previous adaptations, including Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Downey Jr.), Steve Rodgers aka Captain America (Evans), Dr. Bruce Banner who transforms into the Hulk (Ruffalo) and the God of Thunder from another world, Thor (Hemsworth).

The film opens very quickly with Thor’s evil brother Loki arriving on Earth and taking a powerful object called the Tesseract from the world protection agency called SHIELD. Loki’s plan with the Tesseract is to open a portal to outer space and bring a powerful army to invade and conquer Earth. Because of this threat, Nick Fury (Jackson), the director of SHIELD calls upon Iron Man, Captain America, Bruce Banner, Thor and two super SHIELD spy agents Hawkeye (Renner) and Black Widow (Johansson) to battle against Loki (Hiddleston).

X-Men: First Class review

Arguably the best X-Men movie out so far.

X-Men: First Class tells the origin story of how the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants came to be by going into the back stories of both Charles Xavior (McAvoy) and Eric Lehnsherr (Fassbender). We begin with their youths, Xavior growing up and learning that there were others like himself by meeting a young girl who can shape shift into any person named Raven, meanwhile Lehnsherr grows up being experimented on and treated poorly under the watch of Sebastian Shaw (Bacon), who has plans of world domination through mutants.

Once the two reach adulthood, the CIA contacts Xavior to help learn about the growing number of mutants appearing, Meanwhile Lehnsherr is out getting vengeance on those who had ruined his childhood and destroyed his family. Eventually the two characters meet and decide to seek out and help young mutants in the world. However once they gain light of Shaw’s plan they realize that he needs to be stopped and set out to deal with him, the two protagonists also learn that their ideals may be more conflicting than they first thought.

REVIEW: ‘Iron Man 2’

Iron Man has finally returned, but did this film live up to its original.

The movie takes place after some time has past since Tony Stark revealed to the world that he’s the hero Iron Man. In light of this, Stark holds a large expo to not only tout his technology, but also inspire other scientific achievements.

However, problems for the metal clad protagonist start to mount quickly. A new villain named Whiplash (Rourke) with a vendetta against Stark’s family teams up with a rival technology CEO, Justin Hammer (Rockwell) to eliminate Iron Man. Additionally, Stark is suffering from a new disease caused by his arc reactor in his chest and he’s unsure of what to do. Plus, the government begins to distrust Tony.
