Enjoy ‘Deadpool?’ Hyped For ‘DP2?’ Cool, Then You’ll Love ‘Kick-Ass’

A main character dressed as a superhero fights crime, narrates his own story and in some moments breaks the fourth wall.

Think I’m talking about “Deadpool?” Nope. I’m talking about “Kick-Ass,” the 2010 action comedy adaptation of the comic book. In just a few days “Deadpool 2” will be released, with the first one coming to theaters in early 2016.

Despite both of these films having a great number of similarities to “Kick-Ass,” though, people seem to have forgotten the movie that’s now nearly a decade old. But the fact is that “Kick-Ass” deserves to be remembered and recognized because of how it raised the bar, especially in this period of time where we have the “Deadpool” films coming out.

REVIEW: Third ‘Avengers’ Is A Stunningly Well Made Feature

In 2012, the folks behind Marvel managed to put together numerous superheroes in one film and made it all work in “The Avengers.” This time around, in “Infinity War,” they use a lot of that same formula on a much bigger scale and even though there’s so much more going on, it still fires on all cylinders.

The latest “Avengers” takes place directly after the events of last year’s movie “Thor: Ragnarok.” In fact, the opening of “Infinity War” was even teased in “Ragnarok.” We soon find out that Thor (Chris Hemsworth), along with his brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) are under siege by the powerful character Thanos (Josh Brolin).

REVIEW: ‘Black Panther’ Is Solid Entertainment With Great Acting, Compelling Characters

Since getting under way in 2008, the movie series from Marvel Studios has included films with genres that stray away from the typical super hero origins. “Captain America: Winter Soldier” was a spy thriller and “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a space opera comedy.

Marvel once again does this for its latest picture “Black Panther.” Instead of telling a super hero centric story, “Black Panther” is a story of nationalism, politics and a monarchy.

REVIEW: ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ Rocks!

It’s no secret, I wasn’t really a fan of the first two “Thor” movies. That’s not the case with the latest installment, though, as “Thor: Ragnarok” fires on all cylinders.

“Ragnarok” begins with the titular character Thor (Chris Hemsworth) searching for the mystical Infinity Stones and defeating monsters that have been rising up across the galaxy lately. The reason for the monsters returning is that Thor’s father is no longer in control of his homeland Asgard. Instead, it’s Thor’s brother Loki (Tom Hiddlleston) who took charge of the land.

After Thor calls out Loki for what he’s done, the two agree to find their father Odin (Anthony Hopkins). Unfortunately, Odin dies shortly after the two brothers find him. Making matters worse, Odin’s death allows his daughter Hela (Cate Blanchett) to escape an ancient prison and seek the throne of Asgard for herself.

REVIEW: ‘Homecoming’ Is The Best ‘Spider-Man’ Movie In Years

After a failed attempt at a franchise with “The Amazing Spider-Man” movies, Sony Pictures decided to give the webslinging super hero another chance on the big screen. This time around, though, the film takes place in the Marvel universe already familiar to audiences thanks to “The Avengers.”

The film picks up shortly after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” where Spider-Man (Tom Holland) helped Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) in trying to apprehend Steve Rogers. Following that venture, Spider-Man returns to his life as the teenager Peter Parker and attempts to balance his life as New York City’s newer super hero while also attending high school.

While this is taking place, another character, Adrian Toomes (Michael Keaton) is knee-deep in an underground weapons business where he sells arms that have been recovered from previous battle sites. Because this is also taking place in New York, Spider-Man soon finds out about the business. However, as the situation includes high-class weaponry, Stark advises Parker to not investigate the matter further.

REVIEW: ‘Logan’ Is A Perfect Last Hurrah For Jackman

After being an integral piece in the film that helped launch the 2000s superhero blockbuster craze more than a decade ago, the time has finally come for Hugh Jackman’s final adventure as the clawed mutant in “Logan.”

The film follows the titular character, commonly known as Wolverine, as an aging man who is struggling to get through his day-to-day life. He works a dead-end job, his healing powers are weakening, he’s being poisoned by the very metal that’s in him and he has to take care of a sick Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart).

As Xavier’s brain illness worsens, problems increase for Logan when he comes in contact with a young mutant named Laura (Dafne Keen). Logan and Xavier soon learn that Laura was part of an underground mutant experiment and is on the run. As a result, the three are forced to stay on the move and find a safe haven.

REVIEW: Marvel Delivers Visually Stunning Picture With ‘Doctor Strange’

Marvel Studios took a break from some Avengers drama and instead offered up some magical fun in their latest picture.

As one would guess, “Doctor Strange” follows the story of the titular character played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Dr. Stephen Strange is a confident, cocky and at times egotistical medical expert whose life is just about perfect. However, that changes when he gets in a terrible car accident that wipes out the use of his hands.

Now a shell of his former self, Strange seeks out ways to recover and in doing so, learns about a mystical art that can help him regain his strength. By following that path, though, Strange finds himself caught in a struggle he couldn’t have imagined.

REVIEW: ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Strengthened By Character Arcs, Except The Villain’s

After 2014’s “X-Men: Days of Future Past” that jumped around with time travel, Director Bryan Singer has returned to a more linear concept for the latest mutant adventure.

In the new “X-Men” story, audiences get introduced to En Sabah Nur, better known as Apocalypse. Labeled the first mutant in history, Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) is a man who considers himself a god and survived through the ages by transferring his consciousness to a new body. The last time this occurred, though, was in ancient Egypt and Apocalypse ended up getting betrayed and trapped in rubble.

Fast forward to the 1980s, the film starts up with Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) now running a fully functional school with multiple students. Through contact with a character from one of the previous films, Xavier finds out that Apocalypse could be returning, and in doing so, bring his friend Magneto (Michael Fassbender) out of the shadows.

REVIEW: ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Endures Some Flaws To Deliver Solid Blockbuster

Iron Man’s repulsor beam finally matches up with Captain America’s shield in a full on fight in “Civil War.”

The third installment of the series dedicated to the stars and stripes wearing hero starts off with the Avengers, sans Hulk and Thor, on a mission in Africa. While the mission goes well at first, there’s a moment when it shifts into disaster resulting in multiple casualties.

Prompted by this and other incidents involving the team, the world governments create an accord to reign in the Avengers and only deploy them when necessary. Tony Stark/Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), who’s switched from player to general manager of the team in a way, is on board with the plan, but Steve Rogers/Captain America (Chris Evans) has reservations.
